    Introduction

    China is the world’s largest producer of toys. By the end of October 2007, 1541 above-scale toy enterprises had manufactured about 75 percent of the toys in the world, of which sino-foreign joint ventures, cooperative businesses and exclusively foreign-owned enterprises in China are still dominant.  Although all Chinese toy enterprises are less intensive, their regional concentration is quite high, and they are mainly concentrated in the developed coastal areas where the reform and opening-up policy is taken earlier. Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong and Fujian provinces have always been the most important production and export bases of toys in China. The annual sales of the five provinces are more than 95 percent of those of China, and only Guangdong province’s accounts for 50 percent.

    The report focuses on a few problems from 2003 to 2007, such as the development status of Chinese toy market, the regional markets, and key enterprises. And these problems are the ones with which policy makers are most concerned. Also, the report is concise and well-constructured, without complexity of other general reports and plenty of second-hand information. It objectively analyses all areas of toy industry based on the latest information and sequential historical data.

    Purpose of the research: Some changes occur in the external environment, like the small scale and low innovation ability of Chinese toy enterprises, the harsher international standards which have become the obstacles of the export, and foreign-funded enterprises entering Chinese market. So Chinese toy enterprises are forced by them to start considering their future. We believe that the toy industry is bound to undergo large-scale annexation and reorganization in the future. Therefore, in order to solve the key problems in the M&A of leading enterprises, we did an investigation on toy industry for the customers’ reference.
